It's not every day that you hear about a machete being used as a weapon, but that's exactly what happened at the Pizza Hut located at 3530 North High Street. The man jumped over the counter while wielding his weapon, grabbed cash out of the register and fled on foot. While there is surveillance footage available, the assailant did a good job of covering his face. Witnesses were not able to provide the police with very much information, but the store did have surveillance camera footage which has been released to the public. So far, there has been no further information released by Pizza Hut or the police.
Armed robberies are always a stressful event, but being confronted with a weapon like a machete can make the experience even more intense. In addition to surveillance cameras, businesses may want to look at enhanced security measures to ensure that their customers and employees do not experience a similar event. Cameras are an effective tool for gathering evidence and gleaning information about the suspect, but they are not always effective deterrent to crime. Security guards who increase the visual safety profile of your business can help to keep criminals away.
